Hi there 🙂 My name is Wendy and I am excited you are here. You are reading this because you have a passion. Maybe it’s for teaching, cooking, parenting, knitting, or all of the above. Maybe your passion is waning and you are looking for that spark to reignite it. I hope I can help you find that spark again…you had it once, you can get it back.
Who am I writing for?
The number one answer to this question is…ME. I found my passion to write again and I went for it. But, if I can reach 2 or 2000 people than I have surpassed what I started out doing. I love teaching–connecting with people, students, EVERYONE. Blogging is my way to teach outside of the classroom.
What have I done to reignite my passion?
“The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you’ll go.”–Dr. Suess
Read. Read. Read! Everyone should read something! Reading is the nourishment for your brain (well you need other things too, so don’t forget to eat). Maybe you get lost in a timeless tale, or you flip through the pages of a magazine, or you search through blogs. Whatever you do, make sure you feed your mind with words, positive words. I will do my best to give you as many of those positive words that you need.
Listen to everything, yes everything. People, birds, the humming of the AC, frogs, the neighbor mowing the lawn, the clicking pen, music, etc. I found a passion for listening, especially to music. Find a music that fits your different moods, changes the negative moods, enhances the positive moods, and always have it on! My home always has some sort of noise. 90% of the time you walk in my house there is music playing and you never know what will be on 🙂 Embrace it!
I am a teacher, so I teach right? But something many people do not realize is when you are standing in front of 30 different minds you are also learning. If you can embrace that fact it will empower you. You will be more patient, kind, open, and so much more. You can learn from all around you, from people, sounds, feelings. Just open up and let your mind wander.
Who am I?
This is a new blog and I am a new blogger, I am in the process of learning and hope to learn what you all need and give it to you. Some of the topics I will write about are: classroom stories, parent stories, how to cope with stress, how to organize, personal stories, adventure, and so much more. I hope to expand into many different topics very quickly.
I am a wife, mother, teacher, mentor, and scientist (well I was, but once a scientist always a scientist, right?). I have been married for over 20 years and have 4 kids that I consider mine. Three I gave birth to and one I took in when he needed a home during high school. All 4 of them have graduated high school and moving on with their own lives. It has been a tough transition but I am managing it fairly well. My husband and I have followed the same path most of our lives. We met and married young. We have had many trying times but have become stronger in the end. We were both scientists and decided to leave the profession to teach science instead. We made this decision for our kids. They were in their early teen years and needed more face to face time with us. Although teaching is a very demanding and busy job, a lot of the work could be done at home, with our kids.
I have taught a semester of a college biology lab, 2 years of high school biology and environmental science, and 5 years of junior high science. I have been a First Lego League coach and a First Robotics Competition mentor. I have also been a dance team sponsor for both high school and junior high. I was also a substitute teacher for a year for both high school and junior high. I have also been the science department chair at the junior high level.
I have a bachelor’s degree in Biology. I received my teaching certificate through the alternate certification program. This means I was taking classes while I was teaching classes in the beginning.
I am going to use all of my experiences in life, teaching, and my family to create posts that will hopefully inspire someone to do something amazing in their lives. Loving life is the best gift I could ever give.
